コメントで「Some Say The Devil Is Dead」の意味が分からないという話があったので、せっかくだし訳した。

*1:キラーニはアイルランド南部の街で、アイルランド独立戦争時のヘッドフォードの待伏せの戦いの舞台となった場所。王立陸軍第一フュージリアーズ連隊の英兵7人とIRA第二ケリー旅団の義勇兵2人が死んでいる。独立戦争での激戦地として有名。また、キリスト教化以前のドルイド教の遺跡が多く残されている。「悪魔」が殺害された英兵を指すのか、ドルイドを指すのかは不明とのこと。
*2:「豚と牛乳」の意味はおそらく、バイキングの冬至祭りであるユールを指すものと思われる。「some say the devil is dead」は元々アイルランドではなくスコットランドで歌われていた曲で、アイルランドでこれを替え歌としている。元の曲の歌詞ではキラーニーではなく北海に面する街、カーコーディに埋葬されたことになる。これはバイキングとの闘いを歌ったものと考えることができる。攻撃してきたバイキングの死体を悪魔になぞらえていたのかもしれない。パディーはアイルランド人の愛称。アメリカで云うところのアンクルサム。
